Happy Eid Al-Adha 2019! Today, thousands of people in refugee camps across Greece will be celebrating this 'second Eid' to commemorate the day God tested Ibrahim’s devotion by requesting he sacrificed his son Ismael, before stopping Ibrahim and instead giving him a sheep to sacrifice. This occasion is marked by sacrifices of animals for meat, which is traditionally divided between the poor, one’s own home and to relatives.
Kitrinos Healthcare want to make sure that refugees in Greece have the best Eid possible...
We have teamed up with Southern Women’s Aid Network (SWAN) and Team Humanity on a project called ‘Caring for Lesvos’, and will be distributing meat around Camp Moria over the Eid period. Thanks to the incredible support from donors and our NGO collaborators, we will be able to purchase almost 150 sheep which will help to feed up to 8,000 people trapped in the camp. As camp residents must wait in long queues for hours each day for insufficient meals (usually potatoes in tomato sauce), a gift of nutritious meat will be very much appreciated.
We are still accepting Eid donations!
We are collecting donations so we can provide meat to refugee camps in Thessaloniki and Athens. Please donate what you can: every donation helps us to provide food to more forgotten people living in refugee camps across Greece.
Our ‘Eid Sweets & Treats for Kids’ campaign has raised over £500 so far, which will allow us to buy sweet treats and ice cream for children in Camp Moria. Please keep donati ng so we can bring more much-needed smiles to little faces this Eid!
