Giving Refugees an Eid to Remember...
Dear friends, We hope all who celebrated Eid Al-Fitr earlier this week had a happy and blessed day!
The prospect of Eid celebrations in Camp Moria brings mixed feelings: while Eid is supposed to be a bright and joyous occasion, spirits are dampened by the fact that it must be spent trapped in a dirty, overcrowded refugee camp. Thankfully, with the help of ‘Team Humanity’ and the donations of our incredible supporters, we were able to make Eid in Camp Moria a day to remember, with hot meals, sweet treats for the little ones, balloons aplenty and even a barbecue!
Our 'Eid Sweets for Refugee Kids' campaign raised almost £700, helping us to deliver 1000 gift packs - consisting of toys, sweets, a snack and a drink - to children in Camp Moria. We won’t soon forget the smiles on their faces! We were also able to deliver 1000 food packs to Moria residents, which included rice, lentils, flour, milk, oil, vegetables and meat. The camp residents were over the moon, their spirits significantly lifted.
We were blown away by the generosity of those who donated to this year’s ‘Dates for Refugees’ campaign, which raised over £12,000 - an amazing £4,000 over our target. We have been distributing delicious medjoul dates, as well as nutritious food and water, over the Ramadan period for Iftar - a welcome treat in a camp where food can be hard to come by.
We would like to send out a huge Thank You to all those who donated over the Ramadan period: each and every one of you have helped to give refugees in Camp Moria a wonderful Eid.
